It's a delightful thought:

I can just see Colligan sitting at his desk in the mid-1990s, four-fifths
empty bottle of Balvenie beside the dot-matrix printer that's showing it's
age. The wind howls outside, and the harsh sound of glass shattering in the
distance does not phase him.

This is Scotland.

Stephen ponders a while, and sips from his glass. 'Goan The Hoops' has had
it's day, he's absent-mindedly drumming his bony fingers against the hard
plastic edge of his Cherry keyboard, thinking about how he could
revolutionise usenet and change the world as we know it.

Then suddenly the lightbulb above his head appears: I know. I'll create a
new persona for myself and launch it on the world - A young Woman: Talented,
Beautiful, Creative, Intelligent with a vast knowledge of football. Boys
will want to be with her, Girls will want to be her. She'll be great...

And then he scrapped that idea and decide to create the 'Vicky Conlan'
character instead.
